Our Story

How did it all start and what do we stand for?

Aksis Special Hospital was founded in 2012. The foundation of Aksis Special Hospital was preceded by years of dedicated work, the introduction of new treatment methods, and the innovation of Polyclinic Vertebralis and Polyclinic Vertebris.

The specialist hospital was founded by a group of professionals in the field of spine neurosurgery, orthopedics and traumatology, anesthesiology and physical medicine, led by Dr. Robert Saftić as medical director.

From the outset, the goal was to bring something new, innovative, better and safer – minimally invasive – that will ensure a high level of patient satisfaction and reduce patient and healthcare costs. Two separate departments operate within Aksis Special Hospital: Department for Neurosurgery and Department for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

Our mission is simple and consists of offering reliable information about spinal and joint diseases and conditions, minimally invasive treatment options, providing second opinion and ultimately organizing and coordinating possible surgical treatment in Croatia. Our specialties are endoscopic discectomy with annuloplasty (SED), METRx microendoscopic decompression, laser spinal surgery (PLDD), and minimally invasive joint surgery. These methods represent a combination of a minimally invasive surgical approach with the maximum effect in treating degenerative diseases and spine ailments.

Our range of services includes doctor-patient communication, translation services, documentation digitization services, and a wide variety of services once you choose surgery with our neurological or orthopedic surgeons. This can include managing visas and other documentation, airport or hotel pickup, accommodation, support for family and friends back home, etc.
