Treatment of degenerative diseases of the locomotor system using stem cells

Painful discs in the neck or back are a common cause of back pain and disability. Historically, there have been no therapies to regenerate and reverse the degenerative processes in the intervertebral discs, leaving the surgical approach as the only choice.

Methodology

The patient’s stem cells are obtained by extraction from the hip (pelvis). They then infiltrate the disc stimulating healing and regeneration.

What are stem cells

Stem cells are undifferentiated cells that have the potential to become specialized cell types. Stem cells can be categorized as embryonic stem cells or adult stem cells.

Advances in the biotechnology of isolation and application of stem cells have enabled us to use these cells in the treatment of chronic diseases of the spine and joints. The greatest success is achieved with degenerative disc diseases that result in back pain and with osteochondrotic altered joints (hip and knee).

Description and procedure, results

The procedure is performed under sedation and is completely painless for the patient. The results so far are really impressive. In the number of approx. Of the 50 patients treated so far, 90% are satisfied with the reduction of pain and increase in function. Cartilage growth was radiologically proven, and the patients are continuously monitored.

At Aksis Special Hospital, we have been using this method for almost two years!
